Chequessett Beach House which sits directly on Wellfleet Bay has expansive decks, a private sandy beach, and sweeping 180-degree water views. This waterfront property includes a 3,371 SF 4-bedroom Main House and a 470 SF Cottage above a two-car garage, totaling 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms plus an outdoor shower.
It is a short walk to Chequessett Yacht & Country Club (9-hole golf course is open to public) and 1 mile to downtown Wellfleet or the town pier. Ocean beaches and freshwater kettle ponds are within 10 minutes’ driving distance. Rooms of the south facing house offer unrestricted water views and sliding doors to decks overlooking the bay. From the upper deck enjoy outdoor dining and views of Great Island or escape the sun and relax in the hammock or swing of the screened-in porch below.
Under new ownership in 2024, extensive upgrades include new furniture and fixtures, a new boardwalk crossing a salt marsh to a sandy beach, new upper deck with a screened porch below, new cedar siding & roofs, new windows & skylights, and solar panels on both buildings that offset all power use, plus a solar-charged battery backup system.
Main level features high ceilings, a gourmet kitchen with stone island, gas range, wall oven, and ample storage. The kitchen flows into the dining area (has a table for 8) and then living room both with deck access. The main floor is decorated with paintings from local Wellfleet artists. The primary suite includes a king bed and deck access. Its ensuite bathroom includes a foyer, laundry, a lavish oversized soaker tub, a walk-in shower, toilet room (WC), and 2 sinks.
Upper level is accessed by a traditional staircase where there is an office nook and sitting areas with a towering view of Wellfleet Bay. The elevated futon is not included in the bed count.
Lower level has 3 bedrooms includes one with a king, one with a queen, and one with 2 twin beds. There are 2 full bathrooms, a second laundry room, and the entertainment room is outfitted with a large flat screen TV, games, and a sectional couch. All rooms, but one have ocean views as well as direct access to the screened-in porch or upper level deck.
The Cottage, which sits behind the main house and above the garage, has a bathroom with a shower and a kitchenette that includes a microwave, kitchen sink, and minifridge. The loft which has a full mattress (not included in bed count) is accessible via a pull-down ladder. The Cottage could accommodate a couple or a small family, is furnished with a 4-seat dining table and a queen-sized sofa pullout, has two parking spaces of its own.
The bay water is significantly warmer than the ocean. At low tide the sea retreats and the shell fishermen go to work. If you bring a couple $20 bills you may be able to buy a burlap bag of oysters or clams. Amenities include paddleboards, kayaks, boogie boards, and a tandem, a hybrid, and a mountain bike. Ride bikes to town or to the Wellfleet Pier for an ice cream or walk out the private boardwalk to a sandy beach where you can take out the paddle boards and kayaks to explore the bay and Great Island (National Seashore).
Located in Wellfleet, this vacation home is on the waterfront. Commercial Street is a popular attraction and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Cape Cod National Seashore and Cape Cod Beaches. Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill and Poit's Lighthouse Mini Golf are also worth visiting. Kayaking, windsurfing, and motor boating offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with hiking/biking trails nearby.
