This is an authentic all-American farmhouse where farmers who raised premium bred cattle and hogs lived for many years! This IS NOT a Chip & Joanna Gaines, HGTV or Country Living version of a farmhouse.
This is the real deal!
We love this old farmhouse, and we hope you do too!
We've worked very hard to make this a lovely place to stay, here is what you can expect....
This house has been cosmetically updated, not "renovated, gutted or re-done" which means it might seem a bit old, a bit well worn, a bit quirky but full of charm, some original artwork and history, history, history!
High speed fiber optic broadband Wi-Fi (so grateful, it was still dial up less than 10 years ago)!!
The house is cooled in the summer with window AC units.
Each bedroom has its own AC unit and there's a centrally located window AC unit in the dining room. The house is heated by a (brand new!) counterflow convection heater in the dining room with additional electric units in each bedroom for added comfort. The Sunroom bedroom is a three-season room and not heated during cold winter months (Jan-Feb) when it's consistently below 20 degrees F.
There are space heaters and fans available for use as needed. You may be concerned about not having an HVAC, but I can assure you the house is comfortable year-round with what is in place!
The shower tub is an insert that sits over the existing cast iron tub. These inserts have flexible tub floors to accommodate different tub shapes, so you'll notice a little squish, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. We've added a new shower head, handrails and anti-slip strips.
We have a new firepit with a gravel surround and built in seating. We currently have a nice supply of wood to burn from our apple tree!
*We have well water, which has high iron. We use a Culligan water softener, but the water still has a sulfur smell from the high iron, this is normal. We provide a large supply of filter water for drinking.
**We are not handicap accessible, there are multiple sets of 2-3 steps around the house.
**We are pet friendly, but dogs have to be included on the reservation. We don't allow dogs in the beds or on the furniture. Dogs that shed and puppies need to be kept in the kitchen. If we find these rules have been violated there is an additional $25 cleaning fee and we will charge the replacement cost for bedding if it can't be cleaned.
**Farm Tours are available at request- Our Farm has been in the family since 1865, we have 3 farmstead locations all within a half mile of each other. Tours may include a wagon ride, viewing a real 1800's log cabin, snuggling with goats, barn kitties and horse kisses**
Enjoy beautiful Sunsets and Sunrises year-round!
Enjoy the firepit (wood provided), Grill and outdoor patio in the Summer and bring your snowshoes and cross-country skis for the Winter time!
Northwood's Country Club with their "Nasty Nine" Hole Golf Course is located behind the house.
Located on the most popular country road in the county referred to as "the loop." People enjoy walking, biking, running and driving the loop because of the paved road, easy access from town, beautiful country scenery and bridge crossing.
Ochee Yahola Park with wooded trails is located just off the loop past Burgett's Bridge, about a 1.5mi from the farm.
*A common North Iowa Farm pest are orange lady bugs, flies, and box elder bugs. We spray multiple times a year, but you may still encounter them around the house and farm.
*Exterior security cameras viewing the property and entrances to all buildings recording 24/7.
*RBR Massage & Bodywork Studio located on the same property, but tucked out of site from the house and has its own parking,
Located in Northwood, this country house is in a rural area. Freeborn County Historical Society and Mower County Historical Society are local landmarks, and some of the area's attractions include Marion Ross Performing Arts Center and Echoes of the Past. Traveling with kids? Consider Cottage Sampler Tea Room and Gifts, or check out an event or a game at Albert Lea City Arena. Take in the nearby slopes with cross-country skiing, or check out other outdoor activities such as snowmobiling, ice skating, and sledding.
