HUMBOLDT, IL

Humboldt is a village in Coles County, Illinois, United States. At the 2020 census, its population was 361. It is part of the Charleston-Mattoon Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The village was incorporated on April 16, 1878. The village was named after Alexander von Humboldt, a German natural scientist.

At the 2000 census, there were 481 people, 183 households and 133 families residing in the town. The population density was . There were 199 housing units at an average density of . The racial make-up was 98.75% White, 0.21% Native American and 1.04% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.95% of the population.

There were 183 households, of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% were non-families. 23.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.12.
