Manglaralto is a quiet alternative to the nightlife and hubbub Montanita, yet only a 30 min walk along the beach (or $2 cab ride) to the attractions in Montanita. The layout of the artisan village of Montanita is a grid of small streets crowded with shops and restaurants. Most of the east/west roads have beach access. Montanita's economy is based on tourism, mainly with respect to food service , surfing and craft sales. High season for tourism peaks in January and each February Carnival is held in Montanita.
