History hangs heavy in the air as Lake Vermilion was at the heart of the great logging campaign of the 1800’s that built America’s great cities as our country 🇺🇸 expanded Westward. Minnesota’s 1st Iron Mine was located on the Vermilion Iron Range and is now a State Park and Scientific Research Facility. Native Americans have occupied the Lake Vermilion area for the past 5,000 - 7,000 years and traces of their presence can be seen all around, by those with a keen eye.

Runs Straight Unleaded!), 16 Foot V-Hull Alumacraft Boat, Shorelander Trailer (2” Trailer Ball). It’s sitting on Trailer at the Boat Launch. You must Launch. See Photos! Flat Bottom Boat PERFECT for transporting food, luggage, other belongings, and people to and from the Private Boat Launch.

Boat and Motor Rental: $500 per week or $85 per day.

*** Hot and cold running water, just like home. It is not, however, drinkable. Three 5 gallon water jugs are on the porch. Please leave the place with three 5 gallon drinking jugs. They are $7 for a 5 gallon jug at Walmart in Virginia or about $7 for a 5 gallon jug at Zup’s in Cook. Bring empty jugs to exchange and avoid paying the empty jug charge. Primo bottles are from Walmart. Chippewa Spring bottles are from Zup’s.
*** Pick up after your pet. Waste can be buried on the back of the Island along with fish entrails. Shovel provided.
*** Battery Charger and extension cord provided.

A short drive to Fortune Bay Casino, Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary, & Tower Sudan Underground Mine State Park. The DNR Black Bay Hiking Trail and Shore Lunch Site is 1/4 mile from the Island. The DNR Wake-Em-Up Campgrounds Public Sand Swimming Beach is a short boat ride away.

Located in Orr, this cabin is in a rural area and on the waterfront. While the natural beauty of Lake Vermilion and Superior National Forest can be enjoyed by anyone, those looking for an activity can check out Timbuktu Marina. Kayaking and snorkeling offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with hunting and hiking/biking trails nearby.
