Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, surrounded by an award-winning Virginia Century Farm of apples, peaches, and cherries lies the Cabin at the Orchard. We have been granting families and students with day trips to experience what farming entails for over 100 years, and now offer a serene and scenic getaway in the middle of the great outdoors.
Our first log was selected in 1987, from pine trees on our family property in the Appalachian Mountains, and over the years, tree by tree was added until the frame bestowed the historic style of white chinked logs in 1991. We furnished the house with objects from the past as well as the present, to link all the history of the land we built our cabin on, and pay homage to all the people, past and present, that have influenced it over the years. The décor is largely influenced by a desire to “gather together” – with plenty of sitting areas for conversations, laughs, movie nights, and campfires – this place is the perfect spot to reunite families and simply enjoy each other’s company.
Bird watchers, be prepared to see over 50 different species in one day, as wildlife can be seen best from Granny’s Perch. Keep an eye out for anything that may pop in to say hello, such as a rabbit, groundhog, deer, or even the occasional black bear. Here you have the chance to immerse yourself in the world around you. Along with the cabin, Granny’s Perch offers a view rivaled by no others. Grab a glass of wine and have a romantic dinner while watching the sun set over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We have hiking trails and family games for those more active souls, and plenty to enjoy as you stay here at the Cabin at the Orchard.
Located in Cana, this cabin is in a rural area and in the mountains. The Andy Griffith Museum and Mount Airy Museum of Regional History are cultural highlights, and some of the area's landmarks include Earle Theatre and Laurel Hill Birthplace Of J.E.B. Stuart. Andy Griffith Mural and Mayberry Replica Courthouse are also worth visiting. Discover the area's water adventures with fishing nearby, or enjoy the great outdoors with hiking/biking trails.
