A World Behind the Gates
There is a particular kind of quiet that exists only behind hedged walls and iron gates — the quiet of a place built entirely on its own terms. The Gables is that kind of place: a private estate in Bayside, Queens, conceived not as a house to visit, but as a world to inhabit.
Pass through the gilded entrance, flanked by a pair of gold lion statues, and the mansion reveals itself slowly — a soaring, light-filled foyer where twin marble staircases curve upward beneath a crystal chandelier, framed by a hand-laid medallion rug underfoot. Every room that follows tells its own story. A jewel-toned suite drenched in golden lamplight and lush botanical greenery gives way to a sun-washed bedroom wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows. Elsewhere, a regal chamber pays homage to Mughal palace architecture in carved wood and gilded detail, while a moody, velvet-lined retreat smolders in deep crimson and black. No two rooms share a mood, and no detail — from the imported Azul Bahia marble to the hand-selected antiques — was left to chance.
Beyond the French doors, the estate opens onto its true centerpiece: a heated pool framed by a travertine terrace, a draped white cabana, and a serene golden Buddha presiding over a tiled water feature — a private resort tucked behind the privacy of mature gardens. By day, it is a sun-drenched sanctuary. By night, string-lit and candlelit, it transforms into the kind of backdrop where evenings linger and conversations stretch past midnight.
This is a residence for those who do not simply need a place to stay, but a place that reflects how they wish to live — even temporarily. Five individually composed bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a wealth of distinct entertaining spaces make The Gables suited to extended executive residencies, production and content work by day, multigenerational family travel, or a thirty-day stay built entirely around a moment — a season in New York, a marquee event, a chapter that deserves a setting worthy of it.
