Our Veterinarians are experienced in all types of conditions and treatments. Beyond first rate pet care, we make our clinic comfortable, kid-friendly, and a very calm environment so your pet can relax in the waiting room and look forward to meeting his or her doctor.
Preventative Medicine

Happy pets make happy owners. The best way to ensure our pets happiness is to keep them healthy. We recognize that every pet is different inside and out from their personality to individual health. Our veterinarians and staff are trained to help keep them their healthiest based on age, weight, diet and behavior, exercise, individual needs and existing medical conditions. Since obesity is a common problem linked to additional medical conditions, proper nutrition for our pets is an essential part to their overall health. Like children, vaccinations for pets help build up their immunities to protect them from harmful and sometimes fatal diseases for a healthy life. Help protect your new puppy or kitten by scheduling an exam and vaccines as soon as possible. We recommend annual exams, boosters, heartworm tests, and fecal tests to keep your pets their healthiest. Please call to schedule your pet(s) for annual exams and vaccinations.
urgery

We offer a wide variety of surgeries which are performed in our hospital. All of our pets are required to be up to date on their vaccines while staying in the hospital. We perform surgeries on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. Our surgery patients are dropped off either the morning of the surgery between 7 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. or before 7:00 p.m. the night before. We ask that these pets do not have any food after 8 p.m. the night before a surgery so they are able to metabolize the anesthetic effectively and safely. Please call if you have any questions about a surgery, need an estimate or to schedule an appointment.

Dental

Around four months of age, dogs and cats begin to get their permanent teeth. It is important to keep an eye on their dental health from an early age. According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats start to show signs of oral disease by age three. A yellow/brown tartar along the gum line, inflamed gums, and frequent bad breath can all be signs of dental disease. Without proper dental care, plaque and tartar buildup can lead to periodontal disease and oral pain. Daily brushing of your pet's teeth can help prevent plaque and calculus. If you are unable to brust their teeth, provide them with hard chew toys and dry food to help break down any plaque buildup on the teeth. Flavored toothpaste and toothbrushes are dusigned for your pet and can help aid in the dental health. At West Jefferson Animal Hospital, we offer pet dental exams, professional cleanings and extractions. Please call to schedule an appointment with one of our friendly receptionists.

Radiology

We offer digital x-rays that are done in the hospital. The majority of our radiographs are done during surgery in the morning since some pets may need to be sedated. Those pets that need sedation should have their food withheld 12 hours before any sedation is given. Radiographs of the chest allow us to see the size and shape of the heart and whether there are any lung conditions present we need to know about. We are also able to evaluate the stomach, digestive tract, and other structure by x-raying the abdomen. Radiographs are also helpful to look at the pelvis and knee areas to see if your pet is suffering from hip dysplasia and/or osteoarthritis.

Boarding

Here at West Jefferson Animal Hospital we provide the comfort and quality care your pet deserves while boarding in our facility. We prove all of the necessities your pet need to be comfortable including food, water, blankets and bedding. If your pet is on a special diet or needs special food, we ask that you bring those in so your pet gets the proper care they need. Sometimes when a dog or cat is in a kennel environment they might display behavior not normally seen at home. With this type of behavior being a possibility, we no longer allow pets to have access to their own blankets, toys, or other belonging for their safety. We also provide the convenience of Sunday pick-ups which all you to bring your pets in during regular business hours and pick them up on a Sunday evening. Payment is expected on the day you drop your pet off for a Sunday pick-up. This is a fast and easy way to pick up your pet on your way back into town at the end of the weekend. Please call for pricing and to reserve your pet(s) a spot in our kennel.

Grooming

Pamper your pet with a day at the spa. Our pets are dropped off at 9 a.m. Tuesday - Thursday by appointment only. They are treated to a nice warm bath using specifically designed shampoo for the different types of coats. Along with the bath, we also offer nail trims, ear cleaning, brushing, de-matting, scissoring and shave downs. You will be able to meet with the groomer when you drop your pet off to go over exactly how you would like your pets coat groomed. Call to schedule your pet for a grooming today to have her/him looking and smelling their best.

Microchipping

The HomeAgain Microchip is a permanent pet ID placed beneath the skin and between the shoulder blades. Similar to a routine vaccination, the microship is about the size of a grain of rice and requires no anesthetic. A microchip scanner is passed over your pet's shoulder blades to read the pet ID and match it with your contact information. HomeAgain works with hundred of thousands of veterinary offices and shelters to help reunite pets and their owners.

Protect your pet with the proper identification to ensure their return to you in the unfortunate event they become lost. Please call to schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians today!
