For book lovers, a visit to Baldwin's Book Barn feels like a homecoming. The 1822 five-story building exudes bookish charm with its cozy nook, stone walls, friendly atmosphere, wood-burning stove, and shelf upon shelf of books, maps, and prints.
The Barn is an inveterate institution of Chester County, Pennsylvania where people have come for decades to buy and sell books.
Baldwin's Book Barn has also become a major seller on the internet with thousands of online listings in various marketplaces. From best-selling new books, to rare antiquarian treasures, the Book Barn has it all.
Deep in the heart of the enchanting and historical Brandywine Valley in Chester County, Pennsylvania resides one of America's truly distinctive bookstores. Baldwin's Book Barn is a five-story antiquarian bookstore housed in a rustic dairy barn built in 1822 by Quakers Brinton and Sarah Darlington. In 1934, William and Lilla Baldwin established their used book and collectible business nearby and then moved to The Barn in 1946. The old milking house was converted into a residence for the Baldwin Family and the stone barn became the bookshop and, for some years, a country store museum.
Step inside and you are transported to another time and place. Today, our store is stuffed to the rafters with a treasure trove of 300,000 used and rare books, manuscripts, maps as well as fine paintings, prints and estate antiques, and other valued collectibles.
