Located in a hidden and close-knit community of homes on Spy Glass Hill in Tortola’s West End, Solace appears like an enchanted cottage from a story book with an added Caribbean flair.
Stone walls at the entrance contribute an old-world character to the bright white exterior with a grey tin roof, wooden trim, and classically island-style orange clay tiles.
An eclectic mixture of flora and fauna including species of cactus, red flamboyant flowers, and tropical palms along with decorative coral stones enhance the fantasy feel with an original tropical twist.
Entering the main house, the living room is adorned with intriguing décor, including a wall of square paintings telling stories from the owners’ younger guests who visited Solace over the years. The space contains a large wooden dining table and a leather futon and teak Indonesian chairs for enjoying a DVD or a book from the collection of literature and media perched on the book shelves.
Joining the living room, the kitchen features all the modern applications and amenities of a contemporary home, while emitting a classic feel with rich dark custom cabinetry.
The kitchen’s double windows open out to the spacious porch area where meals can be served al-fresco on two round wooden tables, or casual appetizers enjoyed in a unique outdoor lounge area with bright orange and slate-colored sofas while watching the surf below.
Solace comfortably accommodates 10 guests in five colorfully furnished bedrooms.
The first and second bedroom are off the main living area. The first holds a four-poster queen-size canopy bed. The second bedroom is made entirely of transitional stone, keeping it nice and cool. It offers a king bed, featuring a large bay window with cushioned seating, overlooking the tropical gardens. These two rooms share a half bathroom and a second bathing area with double sinks and indoor shower. All bedrooms have AC.
*Please note that the second bedroom is accessed through the master* (making it ideal for parents with younger children, not for 2 couples).
Accessible from outside the living area, the third bedroom is attached to the main building and contains a queen-size bed with an en suite bathroom and opens to its own separate sun lounging area.
Up a stone staircase illuminated by blue lights, the fourth and fifth bedroom are separate from the main house in the heart of the upper entertaining patio. Both are Caribbean-inspired and contain king-size beds and wooden shutters which open to the gardens and a private balcony. These rooms share a bathroom with double sinks and an outdoor shower.
Connecting the two upper bedrooms is also a small kitchenette; a convenient area with a refrigerator and sink suitable for preparing drinks and finger foods to be served at the outside bar table on the expansive upper deck area, the perfect space for everyone to gather at any time of day.
Along with fun and comfortable sun-loungers, the entertaining area is complete with the new salt-water swimming pool, ideal for a refreshing dip in the afternoon sun.
