With a love for British Invasion pop, The Smithereens were an anomaly in the American college rock scene of the late 80s. Their catchy hook-driven songs rewarded them with an impressive series of hits including “Blood and Roses,” “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” “Only a Memory,” “Top of the Pops,” “A Girl Like You” and more. The band was a big influence on Kurt Cobain as he was writing songs for Nirvana’s breakthrough album, Nevermind. The Smithereens have become renowned for their powerful, crowd pleasing live shows.
