Just type in, on Google search, guest posting on any of these platforms: Forbes, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, HubSpot, Inc, Business Insider, Entrepreneur, and Huffington Post to mention these few, and you will be bombarded with steps or suggestions on how to or what it takes to get an article into these high impact platforms.
Some of these steps are, to summarize a few:
1) Endeavor to have great content on your website as proof of work and authority before you start pitching to platforms( http://www.efor-real.com/ ). Be sure that these contents are discoveries and stories that will make the news and be indexed on Google.
2) Do your background work on the intended website, the guest posting topic, and the would-be contact. Let them know that you have done your homework especially during the pitch. Keep in mind that you want to guest post on platforms that would bring you the most targeted traffic.
3) Do not send cold or unsolicited email, even though you could get lucky with them. But try to make yourself noticeable to your would-be contact/editor
Some of the ways that you can do this would be
a) Don't spam their comment section, but give meaningful, impactful and thoughtful comments on their existing posts.
b) Use social media like Twitter and Facebook to socially interact with them, and again, comment meaningfully on their posts. This would help gently build a relationship.
4) Then craft your pitch to the specific writer/editor by name. Your pitch should be about the article and not of your business. In other words, avoid any sales pitch.
5) Pitch something that would primarily add value to their readers and also secondarily benefit the platform like, for example, add to existing knowledge. And make sure that you are qualified to pitch on such a topic.
6) Pitch with a captivating title, and don't waste time making the point known in the proposal. Get straight to the point as some of these editors have to go through hundreds of proposals a day
7) And most importantly, do not forget to follow up. This is because things can get lost in your email box especially with the bulk emails that we receive these days. Experts suggest sending 3 to 4 emails before giving up.
So we have Done All of This, Now What?
I and many others have done all of the above and even more, including presenting a very confident pitch. And in many cases, based on the information that I got from over 346 bloggers, our pitches were rejected.
But that did not stop many of us from doing the same thing over and over again until some of us were able to get our articles into our medium of choice. Also, keep in mind that time helps build a solid relationship, which could help get your article into a great platform.
The key point here is PERSISTENCE. Continue the practice as stipulated above, but give it time and never lose hope no matter how many rejections you get. This is because you are bound the get a YES one of these days. And it is true that one published piece of article snowballs, making getting the next article in a lot easier
But if you do not have the patience to get your post in yourself, many folks abound that have paid for their posts to get published on some of these platforms. And that is if you have the resources for it, as it could be pretty expensive.
But if you would rather keep your money and do it yourself, then be patient as you only lose when you stop trying!
So best of luck with your persistence.
