ELO boosting, otherwise known as Match Making Rating (MMR) boosting, is a very controversial topic among the League of Legends players. Some hold very negative opinions about the process while others actively support it. While this debate is dividing this community into two, we thought that now is the best time to address certain concerns revolving ELO boosting. This is not to defame players who want to artificially boost their ranks; rather, this is an objective take on issues that some players may have been misinformed about. So, if you want to uncover the truth about ELO boosting, read on! We’ve got a lot to unpack.

1. Is Elo Boosting prohibited by Riot Games?

Riot has made it clear that it does not support or condone the process of ELO boosting. To their defense, they only want players to have the best gaming experience possible. They claim that it only devalues the ranking system of the game and make incompetent users play alongside teammates who are way out of their league, causing a huge disadvantage for the team.

But here’s the catch: Riot’s terms only prohibit individuals from playing on accounts that are not theirs. Meaning, duo queues and coaching services (where a booster plays alongside the boostee) are perfectly acceptable. For as long as both players are using their individual accounts, then you don’t have to worry about Riot’s ever-watchful eye.

2. Can my account get banned for boosting?

Apparently, Riot is very secretive when it comes to their boosting detection system. If you’re brave enough, you can test their system for yourself. However, if Riot does detect ELO boosting from your account, you can be penalized for it. Your account may be suspended, and in extreme cases, permanently banned.

3. Is Elo Boosting worth it?

The answer to this question solely depends on the player. It may be worth it if your reason for hiring a booster is to improve your MMR while you’re busy attending other matters. That is, of course, given that your skills match the tier that your booster placed you in. If you’re a newbie and the booster upped your rank to the Diamond tier, then you’ll have a hard time maintaining that rank. If you constantly mess up due to the skill-difference between you and your opponents, then it will only make your boost useless. Moreover, there are security risks that one should consider before obtaining an ELO booster’s service. Because you’re allowing another person to access and take control of your account, there’s a possibility that they may permanently block you out of your account.

4. Does ELO boosting have any plus sides?

It’s time we stop villainizing ELO boosters and the MMR boosting community. While there may be shady things happening in the industry, we shouldn’t let this overshadow the good stuff. Elo boosters offer coaching and mentoring services for those who are struggling with their gameplay. You may either play a game together or have a lecture by analyzing a game replay. With this method, players will be able to enjoy the game, improve their skills, and win!
