The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

RICS is well-known for its professional qualifications in the construction industry. The awarding body accrediting its qualifications in a global range aims to reach quality through its standards and ensures that the deliverance of quality is professional. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors provides the opportunity for many candidates to become an expert in the chosen sector with the knowledge, skills and qualifications. The institute specialises in its sector standards and provides the appropriate certification for the disciplines: Building Surveying, Construction, Dispute Resolution, Land, Real Estate and Valuation. Each standard sector has pathways which can help a candidate to advance in a specific career path. The RICS qualification offers candidates the opportunity to become a Chartered Member of the institute. The RICS membership levels are as follows:

•MRICS (Member)
•FRICS (Fellowship)
If a candidate wishes to become a member of the RICS, then they should fulfil the requirements set by the institute to gain Chartership.

Candidates should select a sector pathway when joining RICS; there are 10 Sector pathways for the AssocRICS level and 22 Sector Pathways for the MRICS qualification. Candidates can choose the paths according to their progress in the qualification and obtain the professional standards in the relevant field. Each sector has its assessment process to assess the competency of the candidate in the selected sector pathway. The assessment splits into three different levels: the mandatory, the core and the optional. Each competency is further assessed based on three levels to qualify as a professional. Every candidate must pass the final stage Assessment of Professional Competence to become MRICS .
An example of a chosen sector pathway
For instance, a candidate who decides to study the quantity surveying and construction sector pathway should prepare to face the final assessment APC. The candidate can approach an online college providing the RICS APC Coaching Service to prepare to obtain the MRICS qualification. The College of Contract Management is one of the service providers helping candidates to acquire the standards of the RICS.
