There are many different CSCS Card Types available to apply through the Construction Skills Certification Scheme. Construction professionals who aim to advance in the career often apply for the CSCS card types which are available for each construction profession and gain recognition in the industry. There are many functions and benefits of CSCS cards, here are some of the card types:
Green Labourer Card
The card is best suited for any construction worker who carries out manual labour jobs in the construction site. The card ensures that the holder possesses the basic qualification to work in the construction site and follow the health and safety necessities required in the field of work. If a candidate wants to apply for the CSCS Green Card, then he or she must be over 16 years and have a specific qualification. Candidates can apply for the green card if they possess/ qualify with these requirements:
• Pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test.
• OCF level 1 or SCQF Level 4 in health and safety in the construction environment.
Alternative courses accepted by the CSCS are
• CITB Health and safety awareness course
• IOSH safety, health and environment for construction worker. Through which a candidate can progress to the blue card.
Gold CSCS Card
This is an advanced level card aimed at supervisors working in the construction industry. The card shows employees that the candidate is eligible to work as a supervisor in the sector. The card qualifies the professional after assessing the experience and skills. Candidates apply for the CSCS gold card with the experience of working as a supervisor in the industry. However, they should possess a qualification which will prove the competency levels in the sector. The following qualifications will help qualify the candidate to apply for the CSCS Gold Card:
• SVQ / NVQ Levels 3 or 4 in the construction industry
• Passing the supervisory CITB health and safety test
• The card is valid for five years, and the candidate can progress towards applying for a CSCS black card
Black CSCS Card
The CSCS black card is suitable for professionals who have management experience in the construction industry. Managers aiming to become a chartered member of a recognised awarding body such as CIOB membership or RICS apply for the CSCS Black Card and gain respect and recognition in the industry. An individual can apply for the CSCS Black Card if they possess an NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management or a CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Site Management. The courses are available to study from the online college: The College of Contract Management. The candidate must also qualify the CITB H&SE TEST.
