The CIOB provides different routes to achieve the Chartered Membership status. There are three membership routes to become MCIOB. The Chartered Membership Programme, the Professional Development Programme and the Professional Review. All candidates applying to become MCIOB should go through the Professional Review. The Chartered Institute of Building ensures to maintain the professional standards of the qualifications so that the industry will gain quality services in the workplace. Many candidates who do not possess an honours degree but have at least five years of experience in the field of construction management apply for the Chartered Membership Programme (CMP) route. The CMP route covers the fundamental knowledge necessary to be competent as a Chartered Member of the CIOB. There are many qualifications which can lead a candidate to apply for the CMP route and complete the Professional Review.
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Site Management
The NVQ level 6 qualification is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and provides the candidate with the opportunity to apply for the Professional Review. Candidates who possess the NVQ level 6 or the Level 7 qualification need not go through the Chartered Membership Programme route.
The CIOB Level 4 qualification
The Chartered Institute of Building provides accredited courses which will help a candidate progress further in the construction management industry and obtain the MCIOB designation. A candidate who possesses a CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Construction Site Management can apply for the Chartered Membership Programme and complete the Professional Review. The CIOB qualification also helps a candidate to become eligible to apply for a CSCS Black Card.
The Professional Review
The Professional Review is the final stage to complete the Chartered Membership qualification. It is the complete assessment to demonstrate a candidate’s competency in the field of construction management. Candidates should fulfil the requirements to qualify as a professional. Each candidate applying for the MCIOB qualification should prepare for the review by revising the guidelines, understanding the rules and regulations of the institute, preparing CPD records completed in the past months, submission of a case study. The Professional Review application can take a few months to complete. Candidates can seek assistance through professional coaching service providers. The CIOB accredits and approves its courses to online courses providers and colleges. The College of Contract Management is one of the approved service providers to offer the CIOB Level 3 and 4 qualifications and the CIOB Chartered Membership Programme.
