What Is The Concrete Staining?
Concrete staining is the process of adding color and imparting a good surface finish to a surface which has become dull and colorless with time. In other applications, it is also used to impart a rich texture and look to the new concrete slabs that cannot be obtained by simple painting or any coloring method. This is the wider method used because instead of creating a complete opaque effect over the surface like the paint, this process permeates the surface to make it ready for the luminous and translucent looks given to it in the further steps and hence can be used further to create mimics of the original pieces like marbles, tanned leather, stained wood and precious stones. The article further discusses the details of the Concrete staining and how can they be completed in a sequential manner.
The Steps For The Process
Since Concrete staining depends upon the finishing process, hence it needs to undergo the basic steps in a sequence to fulfill its purpose. The following are the basics for the same and one should understand each of these completely before moving on to the project: -
Preparing The Concrete- This is the first and foremost step that needs to be done because, without proper cleaning of the surface, none of the further methods would work effectively. It includes cleaning of the surface with suitable cleaning agents and then choosing the type of stain for it, as per the properties and desired to look over the surface. For example, acid stains for variegated tones and water stains for a greater color choice and a safer look to the surface. Here the properties of the concrete surface need to be studied to know the exact type of stain that would work out over the same.
Selection Of The Staining Materials- There are a large number of good staining materials available in the market currently like a concrete stripper, concrete cleaner, sealer, roller, gloves, goggles, rubber boots, booties, staining vacuum, plastic sheets, tape and a lot more in the list. Hence a proper resource planning is a must before starting the project and all of the required items must be procured well in advance in order to complete the work properly.
Applying The Stain- This is an elaborate process and must have the following basic processes –
Proper surface preparation techniques as per the requirements of the customer and the properties of the job piece
Applying the concrete stain. In this step care needs to be taken that the solution is as per the requirements and recommended composition, proper application steps are followed and the non-stained surfaces are well covered.
Cleaning up the area and neutralizing the stain so that the effect gets more prominent and the desirable finishes are obtained easily.
Addition of a coating of sealer to increase the durability of the stain.
All of these processes need to be completed in a sequential manner to get the desired final finish. In cases of individuals desiring to complete the same of their own i.e. DIY, they must study the guiding manual properly and have a clear idea before proceeding for the further process.
