targeted metabolomics

Targeted metabolomics refers to experiments that aim to accurately measure the abundance of previously identified metabolites, such as validation studies which typically include a large number of samples. It usually requires the use of analytical standards for absolute quantification. It may be used to confirm results from a previous discovery based metabolomic profiling experiment or based on results from a genomics and/or proteomics study.
