Cells can adhere to other cells or to the extracellular matrix (ECM) by cell junctions which are subcellular macromolecular structures and regulate many important biological processes. There are several types of cell junctions including tight junctions, adherent junctions, gap junctions, focal adhesion, hemidesmosomes and desmosomes. Cell junctions play a specific role in cell adhesion and transduction of mechanical force. A lot of pathophysiology of diseases such as cancer metastasis, developmental abnormalities, cardiovascular diseases and neurological disorders appear the destabilization of cell junction integrity and function via gene expression changes or gene mutations. To detect the gene expression changes and gene mutations of cell junctions, profiler PCR array system has been applied, which combines the quantitative performance of PCR with the multiple gene profiling of microarrays.
