A monoclonal antibody that recognizes CD47 does not cause a significant level of agglutination of cells. Unexpectedly, the 2A1 antibody was found to be unique among other CD47 antibodies for its inability to promote hemagglutination, while having high affinity and the ability to block SIRPα.
