Everyone has too much stuff. Pack up the refrigerator magnets, clear the kitchen counters of unused appliances, and hide the trash can and the litter boxes. Get rid of excess furniture, book and magazines. Put the outside trash cans away out of sight. You don’t want that to be the first thing a prospective buyer sees as they approach your home for the first time. Consider hiring a professional stager. Have the house professional cleaned from top to bottom. This should include the windows. Check for odors. This is especially important if you have pets. Pet owners may not be aware of pet odors…but prospective buyers will. Mow the grass, weed and tidy up outside. Now for a couple of tips you might not think of. Check the entry door lock and make sure it works smoothly. If an agent has difficulty with opening a lock you may lose a buyer. Also it can reflect on the buyer’s impression of how well the home has been maintained. Make sure the door bell works and that the entry way is clean and inviting. Screen doors should be in good shape or should be removed and replaced if they are not. Consider buying a new door mat. Large sliding doors should open and close smooth and lock easily.
