Poway officially became a city in December, 1980. Even though it’s located in the center of San Diego County, it’s considered to be in North County Inland. It offers convenient freeway access to Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange Counties, as well as Mexico. Poway is a rural area and is known as the “The City in the Country” and prides itself on the fact that over half of the City’s 39.4 square mile area is preserved as dedicated open space.

This community offers a diverse range of housing options, an outstanding school district, a thriving business park, a wide range of dining and shopping opportunities, beautiful parks and over 82 miles of hiking trails.

The Community Church of Poway which was built in 1883 is the city’s first church. It’s still in operation today making it the longest continual house of worship in San Diego County. There are also many other churches and temples in Poway to cover all religious beliefs.

Poway CA Homes for Sale are in high demand because of the shcool district. Poway established its school district in 1871 but did not have an actual schoolhouse until 1885 when a one-room schoolhouse was built at Midland Road, just a short walking distance south of the Templar's Hall. This site is still in use today as an elementary school (K-5), though it was torn down and rebuilt in 1945 and rebuilt again in 2004-2006. In years past, first through eighth graders were taught all together in one classroom. Students did not usually attend high school, and had to travel to Escondido if they wished to do so. In 1909, only three students from Poway graduated from high school.

Today, the Poway Unified School District (PUSD) has grown tremendously with more than 30 elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. PUSD has a record of high performance and in fact, one of its eighth grade students, Anurag Kashyap, became the 2005 National Spelling Bee Champion after winning on the word "appoggiatura".

Poway is very proud that it has one of the lowest overall crime rates in the county of San Diego since 1981 and one of the overall lowest in the state.

Real Estate for Sale in Poway CA ranges from about $200,000 for condos and townhomes to $5,000,000 for your upscale luxury homes.
