Muhlenberg hospital workers held a mass rally Saturday, March 1st, 2008.
Hospital administration initially attempted to find a buyer for the
100 year old plus institution, however, that effort failed when
interested buyers would not pay the asking price. Hospital closings
have become more frequent throughout New Jersey. Plainfield Mayor
Sharon Robinson-Briggs and Assemblyman Jerry Green spoke at the rally
in support of the hospital workers. People's Orgainization for
Progress spokesman Larry Hamm urged the hospital workers to continue
to fight the "Good Fight" and bond together for a common cause.
A second rally has been scheduled for Monday, March 3rd, 6:30pm at the
duCRET SCHOOL of ART located at 1030 Central Avenue, Plainfield, NJ.
Many of the workers who may soon be unemployed spoke of the 1997
merger of Muhlenberg Hospital and JFK Hospital in Edison, and how the merger has not developed as it was intended.
