Welcome to Del's Bar and Ristorante DelPizzo, a three-generation Pittsburgh tradition. Benny and Mary Del Pizzo, our grandparents, came to America from Italy in 1908, bringing with them a love of good food, some family recipes, and the dream of owning their own business. They opened a small grocery store at the corner of Larimar Avenue and Meadow Street in the East End. A few years later, they changed the business into a small restaurant they called The Meadow Grill. For more than two decades, it was a Pittsburgh landmark. Customers came from all over for the delicious food, including sandwiches, pasta dishes, and Pittsburgh's first wood-fired oven pizza. Mary and Benny's sons, Dino and Bob, learned the business from their parents. When the family sold the Meadow Grill in 1949, Dino and Bob carried the family tradition into a second generation. With their wives Josephine and Gerry, they opened Del's - A tribute to the Del Pizzo name - in the heart of Bloomfield. Del's kept the old family recipes and added new ones, prospering as loyal customers recommended the restaurant to family and friends. But by 1974, Bob and Dino had both passed away, and our mother Josephine took over the restaurant. In the late 1980's, it was time for more change. Like our father, we had learned the business by working with our parents, and we became the third generation of Del Pizzos to own and operate the family restaurant. Since then, our goal has been to preserve the best of Del's heritage while also creating new traditions our customers can enjoy and our children can continue. The menu still includes the best of our grandparents' recipes - the sauces, the wedding soup, the brasciole, the marinated carrots, and more - but in addition it offers the contemporaray dishes many people want today.
