The epic New Jersey Paella Cook-off will pit elite Mediterranean-cuisine chefs in a competition staged at Perth Amboy’s scenic Waterfront Marina.

The Cook-off and Third Annual Statewide Paella Festival will be held on Sunday, September 24 from noon to 6PM. The Marina is located at 260 Front Street, and guests can stroll along the promenade which provides a magnificent view of Raritan Bay.

The Paella Festival and Cook-off were created to build awareness of the many health benefits that individuals can gain by following the Mediterranean Diet.

More than 1,000 people plan to attend the Cook-off, and everyone is encouraged to arrive in the early afternoon. Plenty of world-class paella will be prepared by exceptional chefs. The Cook-off judges include Top Chef Diego De La Rosa, who co-owns Paella Party Catering in Fords, N.J., and Executive Chief Serafin Sarduy of New Brunswick-based Esquina Latina Restaurant.

The Cook-off will feature original paella recipes crafted by up-to 15 world-renowned chefs. The celebration of paella is presented by historic Perth Amboy, Mayor Wilda Diaz, the City’s BID, and the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for New Jersey. Perth Amboy’s Office of Economic and Community Development is also supporting the Cook-off and Festival.

The Paella for the World Foundation and Paella Party have organized both the Festival and Cook-off. Admission to the event is free; attendees will pay $10 to sample the paella that is created by the chefs. Many varieties of paella will be prepared including the following:

• Valenciana – chicken, rabbit green, beans, fava beans, and rice
• Mix Paella – chicken, muscles, calamari, shrimp, rice, and green peas
• Castellana − chicken and vegetables
• Vegetarian − mixed greens, carrots, mushrooms and red peppers

Also, musicians will perform during the Cook-off and Festival. Guests can also watch dancers demonstrating the elegant and romantic Tango while enjoying the variety of paella, appetizers and light refreshments.

For more information about the Cook-off and Festival, contact Maria De La Rosa, co-owner of Paella Party at 732-738-7300 or by email at [email protected].
