Welcome to American Pride Bait & Tackle, where you can stop by to get the freshest bait in the area!
I am the proprietor of American Pride, along with my brother, Eddy Gonzalez. I'm also a Realtor and Director of Sales for Rosengarten Realty & Development, located directly next to our store.
We offer fresh, frozen and live bait along with tackle, ice and beverages. We also have a spooling machine to replace the line on fishing reels.
During the summer, we open the store before dawn and keep it open until 8 PM. The store is open late into the Fall. Se habla español, tambien!
We're located in front of the Perth Amboy Marina, right where all our customers are! We serve the best bait for the right season. Just like a restaurant, you have to know what your public likes to eat. Fish like to eat fish too, and we know what they like! So as fish change seasonally, so does our bait. Bait has to attract different fish for different seasons!
Our salt water bait comes in fresh daily, and we have bait such as bunker, fresh clams or salted clams, squid, eels, spearing and killies. We're helping our customers to catch striped bass, bluefish, cocktail blues, snappers, flounder, fluke, blackfish, sea bass, blue crabs and spots (they're called spots because they have one spot next to their eyes!)
We're always trying to get best for the customer, but you always have to keep price point in mind as well. We're consistent about the quality of the bait. If it's from yesterday, we'll let you know if it was early or late. We love what we do, we have a passion for what we do - we'd like to go fishing ourselves if we weren't at the store! We love to see happiness in customers. We post our customer's success on Facebook, and there's nothing better than seeing the joy and victory dance when one of our customers catches a big fish!
Being a Small Business allows you to treat everyone individually. The difference between us and big box stores is, at our small store, you can buy a pole, and we'll show you how to use it! Bluefish require metal wire in Summer and Fall, otherwise they'll chew right through your line. Different fish require different weight sinkers. There's a lot to learn!
