IBEW LOCAL 164 ASSISTS WITH CLOTHING DRIVE FOR HAITI
Donations Accepted Through Feb. 28, Volunteers Needed for Sorting, Packing in March
PARAMUS, N.J., Feb. 18, 2010 – The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164, along with the Paramus Sunrise Rotary club and various local companies and agencies, is assisting the Wells Mountain Foundation and World Service Committee of the Ridgewood YMCA in a clothing drive to benefit the earthquake-ravaged country of Haiti. Donations of gently used summer clothes and footwear for men, women and children can be dropped off at the IBEW Local 164 Training Center, located at 65 W. Century Road in Paramus, N.J., now through Sunday, Feb. 28.
From the Training Center and various other drop-off locations, the clothes will be brought to Behnke's Paramus Building Supply’s warehouse on Century Road, where the items will be sorted, boxed and loaded into one of 15, 40-foot cargo containers that will be shipped to Haiti. The clothes will be distributed to those in need by the YMCA of Haiti, and the containers will be converted into livable shelters.
John DeBouter (pictured right), IBEW Local 164 training director and president, and 25 Local 164 members recently spent the morning helping organize the mounting donations at Behnke’s warehouse. Paramus Sunrise Rotary club members will be on hand to help sort the donations once the drive is complete. Additional volunteers are needed for shifts on March 6 and 13 to sort and box donations, and on March 20 and 27 to load the filled boxes into the containers. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering can contact Victoria Bennett at (908) 832-5315, or [email protected].
