Matthew Schroeder, DVM - PAINESVILLE, OH

I have always loved animals, and I first told my parents I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was eight years old. Once I got my first cat, a Cornish Rex named Corny, I realized just how important pets can be in a person's life. With the new understanding that by caring for their pets I would also be caring for people, I was sold on the profession of veterinary medicine. After graduating from Riverside High School in 2000, I attended The Ohio State University, earning my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2007. After three years as an associate veterinarian, I decided to pursue opening my own practice so I could focus on providing high-quality, personalized medicine in a compassionate and caring environment. While planning and building Crossroads Veterinary Hospital, I worked as a relief veterinarian, filling in temporarily at numerous veterinary clinics throughout northeast Ohio.

In 2004, I married my best friend and high school girlfriend, Kaari, who is also a graduate of The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!). She works as an occupational therapist for the Riverside Local Schools. We have a son, Miles, born in 2009, who is great friends with our dog Bluebell, a hound mix. (His first word was "dog". Maybe he will follow in his dad's footsteps?) We also have two cats, Isabelle and Tula, and a ball python named Anfernee (who has been living with me since the 6th grade!).

I consider it an honor and a privilege to care for and serve people and their animal companions during every stage of their time together. I get just as much satisfaction from assiting in the difficult decisions that arrise when pets become seniors, as I do with every new puppy and kitten visit. There is nothing quite like being involved in a pet's life from start to finish, and it is an extremely rewarding experience every single time.
