Demographics

Nikolai first appeared on the 1950 U.S. Census as an unincorporated village. It formally incorporated in 1970.

As of the census of 2000, there were 100 people, 40 households, and 23 families residing in the city. The population density was 22.1 people per square mile (8.5/km² ). There were 47 housing units at an average density of 10.4 per square  mile (4.0/km² ). The racial makeup of the city was 19% White and 81% Native American.
