Dr. Byron G. P. Butts, DPM - NEW YORK, NY

Dr. Butts completed his undergraduate studies in Biology/PreMed at Harvard University where he earned All American honors on the Men's Swimming Team. After a year of clinical outcomes research at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Dr. Butts received his doctorate at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed his postgraduate studies as a resident at The Mount Sinai Hospital Podiatric Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Butts is board qualified in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot & ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Butts treats all podiatric problems and has a passion for sport medicine injuries; particularly in runners. Dr. Butts knows the latest running training techniques and shoe technologies. Dr. Butts is also well experienced in surgical techniques for plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis, including T.O.P.A.Z coblation, cryosurgery, extracopreal shockwave therapy, and platelet rich plasma injections.

Dr. Butts, founder of Performance Footcare of New York is currently on staff at Gramercy Ambulatory Surgery Center and Center for Specialty Care in Manhattan in Midtown Manhattan in addition to Surgicare Ambulatory Surgery Center in the Bronx. My focus on athletes is driven by my passion for sports from a young age. As a five-time state champion and three-time All-American in swimming I know personally the havoc sports can play on the body and the specialized treatment and ongoing preventative care athletes need.

In recent years I have spent a lot of time with marathon runners, triathletes and ironmen and women who have very specific needs. With each of your feet pounding the ground some 800 times per mile, it's no wonder serious runners who rack up the miles often have some very specific foot problems. We created this section to help guide runners on possible foot problems, how to understand symptoms and when to seek treatment. There are also some great tips and tricks for runners looking to prevent foot injuries from happening.
