Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI) is a private provider of specialized education services for children and youth facing learning, language, and social challenges. SESI offers a variety of day school programs that are customized for students with disabilities and at-risk youth. These day schools go by the names: High Road School, High Road Student Learning Centers, High Road Academy and Sierra Schools.
At all SESI schools, we believe every child deserves an education that will enable him or her to grow into a successful and self sufficient adult. We design our programs to focus on the specific needs and strengths of each child. SESI currently operates programs in six states and the District of Columbia. All SESI schools are licensed and approved by the states in which they operate.
Mission:
* To build the confidence and competence of children facing learning, language, and social challenges through personalized, academic interventions.
* To prepare youth to become responsible adults who are able to participate in their communities and lead self-fulfilling lives.
* To provide leadership and serve as a role model for improving the education of all students.
* We are committed to maximizing our impact on the nation’s most challenging student populations, with a particular focus on those who have experienced little or no success in the traditional school setting.
Philosophy:
Since the beginning, our philosophy emphasizes that the key to academic success for many children is not dependent on the type of content or instructional materials that are used. We feel it is the manner in which the student interfaces with the instructional material that makes the difference.
Our intensive, one-to-one, tutorial-based classroom model promotes a unique relationship between the student and the teacher, one which is built on trust, with the appropriate balance between empathy and accountability. This highly individualized instructional model and a values-driven rewards system, combine to create an environment where even the smallest academic successes become the most powerful reinforcement for building student confidence and competence.
