FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm a real estate agent. I found my listings and profile on your site. How did they get there?

Please visit the following page with answers to this question:
Q: How do I list my business in your directory?

A Greater Town is self-serve, you can post your marketing and PR material directly. Just join and follow the prompts.

Q: How much does it cost?

Currently, our site is free (subject to change in the future) but there's a long backlog in moderating first-time users. In order to jump to the front of the line, some users elect to pay for expedited moderation. Users can also expedite moderation by writing a business description or article with more than 750 words. See instructions when you post.
Q: If I lived in the city and were looking for a vacation rental, I would never google a specific town like Chichester, NY. I would have no idea where it was - same for any of the other obscure hamlets. My criteria would be drive time, creeks or lakes, interesting places nearby. Every vacation rental has views, mountains, serenity, restaurants, hiking, friendly locals, wildlife, etc. Why not create a checklist for people to compare all the choices?

That's what dedicated vacation rental comparison platforms do, like HomeToGo, VacationRenter, etc. - they aggregate and compare.

That's not what we are trying to do in A Greater Town, primarily. Maybe one day we'll be able to add such a feature - it would be valuable.

But beforehand, we're trying to do something different,to establish a sense of locus, and hyperlocal cross-marketing, publishing, bookmarking and professional networking.

The vacation rental vertical is just one out of many others we'll be featuring. We're also featuring real estate, RV rentals and hotels. Restaurants, jobs and events will follow soon.

In order to get a sense of what our site can do, imagine we had a hundred other verticals integrated in local portals the way we currently have the vacation rentals.

Imagine we had restaurants, movie theaters, hair salons, recreational resorts, babysitters, chiropractors, lawyers, Realtors, real estate listings, long-term rentals, job listings, roommates wanted, coffee shops, hiking trails, RV rentals, hotels, events, news, history, White Pages, Yellow Pages, every small business, etc.

Imagine you can log in and personalize your preferences for every town location that interests you, receive updates via newsletter, share with friends, make new friends through them, etc.

You can bookmark those categories that interest you in any given town that you belong to or follow, and you can access that information through your dashboard. You can share publicly so other people can see it and interact with you through it, or you can keep it private, for your eyes only, or a select few.

That's where we are headed in A Greater Town!
