BrassWorks on Grove is pleased to announce “Visions: Large & Small,” on view from March 1 – May 26, 2013, at the BrassWorks Gallery, 105 Grove Street, Montclair, NJ. An opening reception will be held
on March 1, from 6 to 9 pm. “Visions: Large & Small” highlights the work of Susanna Baker and Susan Lisbin.
Susanna Baker has created a series of works on paper, resin and oil on wood that are physically small, yet explore relationships in a vast layered space. Susan Lisbin’s large scale paintings use strong gestural lines and bold compositions to create an intimate and conversational space. Although their work is visually very different, the exhibit conveys true cohesiveness and presents a distinct conversation between the artist’s pieces. Both Baker and Lisbin use personal imagery that has emerged over time, organic and geometric shapes that populate a complex space.
Baker’s work has been exhibited in many solo and group shows in New York City, New Jersey and San Francisco, including the NAWA Gallery, Prince Street Gallery, Monmouth Museum, the Watchung Arts Center, Gaelen Center for the Arts, and the George Segal Gallery. She uses printmaking, encaustic and oil paint to produce her non-representational work. She has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design.
Lisbin has exhibited her paintings and sculptures in many solo and group shows in New York City and New Jersey, including the William Paterson University, Ben Shahn Galleries, the Art School at Old Church, the Watchung Arts Center, NJ State Museum, and the Arts Guild of NJ and the M13. She works in oil and acrylic on her two-dimensional work and uses mixed media on her three-dimensional work. Susan has an MA in painting from Montclair University.
