Synergizing her personal language of drawing, painting, and collage, Pamela Deitrich draws on her emotional connection to birds, their habitats, and their symbolic power to create “Bird Watching.” Her multi-media paintings will be on display at the Studio Montclair Block Gallery during the month of April, 2010. All are invited to attend the opening reception to be held Friday, April 9, 6 to 9pm.
Layering pieces of illustrated bird guides and found objects including feathers, sticks, and eggs with her own expressions in ink, water-based dyes, and acrylic paint, Deitrich “created new, composite environments to capture the essence of my emotions through line, color, and image.” Deitrich’s fascination with birds and their ingenious habitats originated from her childhood experience of raising an orphan robin to adulthood, and collecting abandoned nests, feathers, and eggshells throughout her life.
Deitrich received her BFA from Moore College of Art and Design, and is known as an illustrator and art educator. She later pursued a Masters in Museum Studies, and has curated collections of costumes and textiles. Deitrich thematically embraces the woodlands, beaches, animals, circus, and contemporary landscape. She delights in light, line, and color.
