Studio Montclair (SMI) is honored to present A Journey Through Painted Landscapes, a survey of work by Montclair painter and illustrator Denis Orloff. The show will run from April 17 through June 20 at SMI’s Academy Square Gallery, 33 Plymouth Street, Montclair, NJ. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 17 from 6:00-8:00pm. This exhibition reflects Orloff’s passion for natural light and its effects on the world around us. Says the artist, I have always been drawn to light. Light is everything. We cannot live without it: from the early morning light to the fading golden hour, and finally the light of twilight which affects our emotions and how we feel about our environment. Truly it is the different colors of light that brings with it the profound feelings of deep emotions. I love to create images bathed in afternoon light, as well as depicting the subtle details in the shadows, just waiting to be found by the viewer, that change a location from ordinary to ethereal.
About the Artist:
Denis Orloff graduated from Parsons School of Design in NYC followed by a highly successful career as an illustrator of children’s books and for television shows, magazine articles, and product advertisements. His illustration clients include American Girl, Arista Records, Forbes Magazine, Good Housekeeping, McGraw Hill Publications, NBC TV, New York Magazine, The New York Times, and many others. His work is in various collections throughout the country. While continuing to paint throughout his illustration career, he has recently been able to fully focus on his enthusiasm for landscape painting and portraits of people, pets, and homes.
