For almost 33 years, I had lived with what you may consider a mild facial deformity. The nose I was born with had nothing in particular as a child. However, as I entered my teens, it began to look larger and higher than most of my other regular facial features. By the age of 21, it wasn’t hard to see the disproportion. Coming from a very religious family, I would take refuge in the notion that God had given me the nose that was right. Still, I found myself more and more conscious of it, to the point where I was virtually afraid to introduce or meet strangers. It had become painful reality in my life.

At 33, and after much convincing from a very dear friend, I decided to agree to plastic surgery. The first three weeks after the rhinoplasty was carried out were very difficult. First was the swelling, then was the getting use to the new me. By week four, not only me, but things in my life were looking much promising. Friends and acquaintances kept telling me how great I looked. My self-esteem went from almost non-existing to very robust. I found myself willing to partake in new social challenges. One such encounters produce the beautiful woman soon to be my wife.
I continue to be amazed at how much a little on the outside can mean inside. I am not only a better-looking person. I am also healed in my mind and my spirits. No one has to live a life in which we are not happy with ourselves when the opportunity to change it is so readily available. Of course, there are economic implications to the decision, but in my case, and seeing the results I have experienced, I would have spent three times over, and would still be happy with my choice.
