Having a retail store is more than just about the products or goods that you offer consumers. Of course, this is a large part of providing for the customer. There are other things that you should focus on, nonetheless. Your store should be more than a space to simply display items – it should be an entire experience from the moment the customer steps through the door.

It is important your retail store is run like this. It can be difficult, however, to determine if this is what happens. One of the ways you can evaluate your storefront is to employ individuals to go mystery shopping. This will give you a well-rounded idea on how everything is functioning. Here are some ways that you can assess how your store is being operated:

Well Stocked

At times, it is understandable that you will not have certain items in stock. These occurrences, however, should be far and few in between. Remember, when you have to turn a consumer away, it means that they will find another venue to shop at. Your employees should know to not wait until the last moment before restocking the shelves. This will reflect badly on your company and brand. You should also make sure that the items are replaced as quickly as possible to avoid disappointing other clients as well.

Cleanliness

One of the most important things about your physical store is that it is clean. An untidy or dirty space will have most consumers leaving as soon as they arrive. Have somebody in place to frequently clean up after customers have come and gone. This is particularly important during rainy or snow days as this increases the amount of dirt that will be brought into your store. Another vital area to keep clean are the bathroom. A lot of clients will judge your store depending on how sanitary the bathrooms are. If you want to make a good impression, make sure the toilets are spotless.

Staff

It goes without saying but your employees play a large role in whether or not you will make a purchase. Think about whenever you have entered a store. Salespeople that are rude or abrasive will make you want to leave immediately. The ones that hover around make you feel uncomfortable. Make sure that the staff are friendly and within sight. They should, however, not impose upon the customer as they shop.

Lighting

People want to be able to see what they are buying so it is important to make sure that the area is well lit. Having a room that is too dark will not really encourage customers to buy your products, either. There is, nonetheless, a danger in having lights that are too bright or harsh. It is particularly important to have appropriate lighting in dressing rooms. While people want to have an accurate picture of what they look like, stay away from severe florescent lighting that makes everyone look bad.

These are some of the basics that you need to cover when appraising your store. As long as you have these points sorted out, you should have no problem attracting customers to you.
