The great thing about having so many cable and streaming services at our fingertips means that there’s always something new to binge. And all of your favorite services are ready to deliver this year, so here are the top 5 most anticipated TV shows of 2020.

1. Bridgerton, Netflix

Netflix users should watch out for Bridgerton this year. The story is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novel namesake. This adaptation is set in Regency-era London and, while Netflix has kept most of the details under wraps, we know that the series starts based on the first Bridgerton novel titled Duke and I.

In the novel, the two main characters are Duke Simon Bassett and Daphne Bridgerton who are played in the Netflix adaptation by Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor. The two characters fake a marriage to avoid pressure to marry for real but trouble brews when Daphne starts to fall for Simon.

Besides an interesting plot, this show promises a star-studded cast and crew. This includes executive producer Shonda Rhimes, Scandal alum and writer Chris Van Dusen, and narrator Julie Andrews. So the production behind it is already promising!

2. High Fidelity, Hulu

If you recognize the title High Fidelity, it’s because it’s not only a 1995 novel by Nick Hornby but it was already adapted into a 2000 movie with John Cusack starring as the main character. The story follows a record-store owner who thinks back on past relationships, wondering what went wrong.

In the 2020 version, Hulu flips the script by gender-swapping Rob out for a modernized Robyn played by Zoë Kravitz. If you’re interested in a little interesting movie trivia, Kravitz is actually the daughter of Lisa Bonet. Bonet was Cusack’s co-star in the 2000 film adaptation so there’s an interesting connection there.

You can expect this series to hit Hulu on February 14th, right in time for a Valentine’s Day binge!

3. Love Life, HBO

This romantic comedy stars the quirky Anna Kendrick of Pitch Perfect, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and A Simple Favor fame alongside her former A Simple Favor co-star Paul Feig. The story follows the main character Kendrick plays throughout her life and shows us everyone from her first to last love.

Sam Boyd created this 10-episode anthology and it demonstrates how the people around us shape us throughout our lives. It also shows the journey that Kendrick’s character takes to find her “soulmate”.

While we don’t have an exact date for this story, you can expect it to hit the HBO streaming service in May.

4. Impeachment: American Crime Story, FX

Ryan Murphy is already a widely renowned producer and writer of shows like American Horror Story, Scream Queens, and American Crime Story. It’s American Crime Story that sees new content for season 3 on FX on September 27th in Impeachment. Rather than focusing on the current political sphere, though, this season will step back and take a look at the impeachment trial of former president Bill Clinton.

The season will star Sarah Paulson - one of Murphy’s frequent stars - as Linda Trip as well as Beanie Feldstein as Monica Lewinsky, with acting as Annaleigh Ashford as Arkansas state employee Paula Jones.

Sarah Burgess wrote the season’s script with influence from the existing novel A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. Murphy actually contemplated the idea in 2017 but turned it down at the time, insisting he wouldn’t work on it until Lewinsky herself was on board stating, “If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer.”

If you want to access this show, you can check out the FXNOW app or use a cable TV service like DISH Network or DirecTV.

5. The Wheel of Time, Prime Video

Without an official release date, all we know is that The Wheel of Time is coming soon in 2020 to Prime Video (Amazon Prime). Even if you aren’t familiar with the source material - a series of novels by Robert Jordan published under the same name, fantasy lovers will want to keep the eye out for this release.

The main character is played by Rosamund Pike, who you might recognize from films such as Gone Girl. She plays the magically-inclined head of an all-female organization. This group takes in young members after a disastrous attack. All the while, the show’s antagonist, the Dark One, is plotting to reshape the world to his liking while the protagonist has a choice - either save the world or use their power to destroy it.

Tv shows are looking great so far for 2020, and you’ll need a decent streaming service to binge-watch these shows!
