Every single person changes every single day. That is the nature of life. The change represents growth, while growth represents life. If you think about it, stagnation is the root of anxiety and depression, as well as the main reason for unfulfillment.

Once you understand that everything in life is temporary (thoughts, emotions, experiences, etc.), you’ll find it easy to cope with life’s biggest challenges and setbacks.Do not get attached!

While there are many qualities and traits that go hand in hand with change, perseverance is one of the most critical skills that a student can cultivate during the early stages of his adulthood.
In today’s post, we’re going to discuss several insightful tips and tricks that should help students of all ages cultivate and leverage perseverance on a day-to-day basis.

First of All, Find Your True Reason!

Why do you do what you do? Why are you in college or university? If it’s because “that’s how society is”, that is not good enough. If you’re studying because your parents want it, that’s not good enough either.
You need to find your life’s purpose and path. We all have one. It’s unique, and it must be discovered as soon as possible. The more you delay it the harder will it be to achieve anything significant. Even if you graduate with big grades and get a “good” job, life will have no meaning unless you are doing something that YOU have decided to do.

You Are Not Your Mind

Remember: your thoughts and emotions change just like the weather changes every single day. You are not your thoughts and emotions, and you are not your mind. You have a mind that you are constantly using to create change in your life. If you perceive yourself as bigger than your thoughts, emotions, and moods, you will be able to respect and perseveringly pursue your priorities.

Create Structured Systems to Achieve Your Goals

Being an experienced manager who constantly works with struggling students at Edubirdie, I’ve realized that most students lack an effectively structured system to reach their goals.

Most students don’t even plan their goals on paper, which is a terrible mistake. If you want to make lasting change in your life, you cannot address the process in your head only. You need to introspect and put it all down.
Here’s the process I use:
Establish a yearly goal (the biggest goal). Split it into four smaller goals (one for each season). Proceed by establishing three more goals (for each month of a season).
Now you have a major goal that is broken down into accomplishable and realistic smaller pieces. Every day, create a “TO-DO” list and establish daily goals that are directly connected with your monthly goal. Take it all step-by-step and perseveringly follow this system until you create significant change in your life by achieving your big, yearly goal.

You Don’t Need Motivation When You Have Habits

Normally, achieving goals requires motivation. Obviously, motivation is a limited resource. In order to stop needing it, you should start cultivating daily habits.
A habit is something you do effortlessly because your mind and body are already adapted to that specific behavior. Therefore, if you want to become an extremely healthy, intelligent, and responsible individual, start reading and exercising every single day without exception. Start small and then go big!

Perceive Your Willpower as a Trainable Skill

What separates us from animals?

I’d say it’s our higher consciousness. What is consciousness? I’d say it’s the ability to make choices. However, a choice has zero value unless willpower is present.
Willpower is not a born trait. In fact, it is a trainable skill that you can improve every single day. Whenever you do not “feel” like working on your priorities, stop thinking, follow Nike’s motto, and “just do it”. Once you’ve done it, consider it a win. A won battle in the long war called life. Do it every day and your willpower will skyrocket. Once it does, perseverance will feel like play!

Failure is Your Greatest Feedback and Friend

If you apply for a job and your interview doesn’t get you the position you desire, your self-confidence and motivation might suddenly drop. To some students, rejection generates long-term negative consequences unless the problem is correctly addressed. It goes the same with any type of failure!

Stop for a moment and think. Why did you fail? Can you establish the cause? If you did – was it your fault or someone else’s? What did you do wrong? What was the lesson? How are you going to prepare to succeed next time?
Every failure is a lesson. Don’t listen to me, listen to every highly successful individual who confirms this. Experiences change you (for the good or for the worse). You don’t have control over life, but you can fully control how you perceive it.

Takeaways

If you’re eager to change your life, acknowledge that every uncomfortable experience you’ll have to go through will lead you towards progress and growth. As gym addicts say: “no pain, no gain”. Change your life consciously by assuming full responsibility for your actions and decisions.
When you fall, get back up. If it’s hard, it’s hard. Accept it and keep pushing. Find your unique reasons to move forward and keep pushing forward. Suffering or abundance – it’s all up to you!
