Anxious Visions: The Art of Michael Northuis: Columbia Museum of ArtNow - April 7, 2013 Check out the Columbia Museum of Art's newest Gallery 15 exhibition, featuring paintings and drawings by Michael Northuis, a prominent Southeastern artist, this Gallery 15 exhibition takes a wry look at the psychological conditions of contemporary life. His is the kind of artwork that initially shocks, amuses or pleases, but its lasting impression is to ponder how offbeat the "normal" reality around us can be. Planets for the People: Parkland Plaza in CayceSaturday January 19, 2013 6pm-10pm The South Carolina State Museum science staff and the Midlands Astronomy Club will start the new year with a new location for the popular “Planets for the People” sidewalk telescope viewing series. The family stargazing event will take place Saturday, Jan. 19 from 6-10 p.m. at Parkland Plaza in Cayce. “If it’s clear, we should have a good view of the moon and the planet Jupiter,” said Tom Falvey, State Museum director of education. “We’ll set up several telescopes near D’s Wings. As Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system, it should be easy to see, weather permitting, of course. We had such wonderful responses to our sidewalk viewings in the fall,” Falvey said. “It’s really great for us to see how excited people get when they look through those telescopes. It doesn’t matter what their age is, they all become starry-eyed kids again!” Visit the Midlands Astronomy Club's website for info. |
