It's raining...let's NOT look at houses today...by Laurel Grandle, REALTOR

  Looking at houses on a rainy day is NOT a bad idea at all.  There are all kinds of things you can see in the rain  that you cannot see when the weather is clear and the lawn is dry.

  Active leaks come to mind...if the owners say the ceiling stain is OLD and they just haven't hit it with the KILZ and it's raining, see if the stain is damp!

 You can also see how well the ground is contoured to keep water away from the foundation, if water "pools" in the yard or comes into the basement or garage.

Leaks or defects in guttering and downspouts also show up more readily in the rain...look for those.

I showed a house not long ago in the rain and it didn't have gutters...I would PROBABLY notice it in dry weather, but the rain made it obvious.  The front steps and porch were painted and they were very slippery...quite a hazzard in the rain.  I'd never have known this on a dry day!

I realize owners don't like their houses tracked up with wet shoes and REALTORS don't like their cars messed up with wet folks, but looking at property in bad weather is a GOOD idea.
