Here it is the first week of April and if you’re like me, you are itching to get outside and begin planting your vegetables and flowers for the season.

There is something about getting your hands dirty in your own garden that makes those blooms even more beautiful.

Here in Onslow County you see a variety of plants and flowers.

As you drive around Jacksonville, NC, you will see several colors of crape myrtles aligning the streets, dogwoods in the yards, as well as hostas, azaleas, roses, butterfly bushes and my personal favorite gardenias, not to mention the fruit and nut trees.

I love driving by a well manicured yard with multitudes of flowers and bushes in full bloom, I just want to stop and admire the time and effort that the home owners took to beautiful their neighborhood.

If you are renting your home, you can purchase flower boxes and set them on porches or at the corners of your house, driveway and steps to brighten your yard.

For information on planting, whether it is a vegetable garden or a flower garden there are many garden centers in Onslow County, with knowledgeable staff to help you select the perfect plants for your yard.
