The trend of international travel that started in the 20th century has now become routine. More and more people are traveling to foreign lands, thanks to easy commuting and communication devices that make the international travel not only cheap but also hassle-free. With online airlines booking and mobile phones which work everywhere the international travel has never been easy. Moreover, there are many more reasons than in the past to travel. The business has become diversified, jobs have become global in nature and so has the attitude of the people. Those who can go around seeing the world and enrich their own experience. India is one of the most diversified country indeed benefited from it and the tourist arrival has increased manifold since its economy opened-up in the 1990s.

However, the process of procuring the visa so far was not so tourist friendly and people had to apply for the visa the traditional way in Indian embassy of their country and get their passport stamped with the Indian visa even if they were just to visit their friends or their business associates for few days. This all changed with the e visa. The government of India in keeping with the changing times launched the e visa facility for tourists who wanted to visit India for a short duration of two months for tourism, business, and medical treatment. These people could apply for the Indian visa online and fly to India.

Unlike other government facilities applying for Indian visa online is very easy and hassle-free. Go to the website and fill a small form giving your details and upload your picture and scanned copy of your passport. You need to pay the visa fee with your credit/debit card and the e visa is delivered to your email box. When you fly to your designated airport (that you have opted for in the form) you will see an immigration officer who would stamp your passport. That’s it! However, you need to keep certain things in mind to avoid any heartburn. First, the availability of e visa is for only designated 150 countries so make sure your country falls in the eligibility list and the e visa is available in selected 30 airports and seaports. So, make sure you fly to one of those. Do apply for at least one week in advance though you can apply even 48 hours before you land in India. You will also have to see how much fees you need to pay as it is based on reciprocity and differs from country to country.
