Since inception, the residents in the rural area have relied upon farming as the primary occupation. But, there have been instances wherein the farmers had to bear huge losses due to bad weather, bad soil and scarcity of water. To mitigate the issues faced by the Indian farmers, the Central Government has rolled out various schemes and farming projects over the past few years. In this article, we shall be discussing about the important farming projects that have been rolled out by the government to ease the problems faced by farmers who are working tirelessly for yielding fruitful results.
Here is the list of farming projects that have been rolled out till date to deal with farm distress in India. These innovative farming projects have been launched by the Indian government and cover schemes like soil health card scheme, which have proved to be extremely beneficial for the farmers and their family members as well.
The main motive behind this scheme is to provide total insurance to Kharif and rabi farmers and financial support to the farmers in case there’s any damage to the crops. This scheme has replaced MNAIS and NAIS schemes. It was launched in October 2014 and has been helping plenty of farmers since then.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sinchai Yojana was launched by the Government of India in the year 2015. The main motive behind this launch was to take the irrigation water to every agricultural field and boost the yield of agricultural lands.
This scheme was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers welfare in the year 2015. In this scheme, every farmer is provided with national soil health card. This will have instructions and crop-wise recommendations of fertilizers and nutrients required by the farms to help farmers yield more out of their agricultural lands with judicious inputs.
For the uninitiated who are thinking – ‘what Is Soil Health Card’, here’s the explanation. In soil health card scheme, every farmer is provided with a soil health card using which they can know the current condition of the soil and also get a recommendation on what kind of fertilizers and nutrients can be used for getting a good yield.
A farmer will get soil card once in 3 years. These cards act as a soil indicator. The status of the soil is tested based on 12 parameters like macronutrients, secondary nutrients, Fe, Cu, Zn, Bo, and other physical parameters. Based on these parameters, the farmers are provided with recommendations to improve the condition of the soil and yield good crops. Now, farmers can also log in through the soil health card app to check the status of the soil and recommendations provided by the agricultural experts.
For soil health card registration, farmers need to visit the official website of soil health card i.e., http://soilhealth.dac.gov.in along with the samples of soil and other lab reports. Once registered on the portal, he can access the soil status by using the soil health card login details.

Here are a few benefits of having a soil health card:-
* Farmers can test the soil results through soil testing labs.
* They can get personalized nutrients and fertilizer
recommendations.
* They can get personalised MIS module to track the progress of soil

The reason behind launching soil health card is to create a single national database and identify the common issues faced by the farmers and provide a solution through the agricultural experts. As of now, the content on the website can be accessed in the English language. Soon, the website will be available in regional languages.
Around 34 lakh soil health cards have been issued by the Government of India till date. Andhra Pradesh has taken the lead in distributing the soil health card to its farmers followed by Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala and Mizoram. Apart from these, the government is working tirelessly towards creating more innovative projects to help the farmers flourish in terms of farming.
