Pallets are crucial for any type of logistics and packaging equipment, and there are countless companies everywhere who rely on the versatility and reliability of pallets on a daily basis. Pallets are crucial when it comes to ensuring that your business is flowing properly and that all means of production are remaining in sync with one another.

We’re very fortunate to have partnered up with a houston pallets specialist to help us compile this list of the 6 most common types of pallets, and why each of them has their own pros and cons that business owners should be aware of.

So here are the 6 most common types of pallets:

Roto-Molded Pallets

These are a very modern take on the wooden pallet, and roto-molded are high tech in that they utilize a rotational molding method that allows for their sleek, plastic design. They’re available in all standard pallet sizes, and throughout many of Houston’s largest businesses they’ve been touted as a very economical investment due to overall durability.

Another really cool aspect of these pallets is that you can upgrade them to have steel frames, which will subsequently lead to a much larger load-bearing capacity. This type of pallet is also useful when hygiene is very important within a specific industry.

Injection Molded Pallets

These are another more modern style of pallets that is plastic in nature, but utilizes all different types of injections within the plastic to provide more grip on the top of the pallet and more durability. These pallets also come in all standard sizes and can be provided in an array of colors as well.

Another great aspect of injection-molded pallets is that they’re recyclable, very durable and easily washable.

Deck Board Pallets

This type of pallet is more along the lines of what most people are used to thinking, primarily because they are made of wood. What helps set this type of pallet apart from other wooden pallets is that they’re capable of being picked up in 4 directions.

Of course this type of pallet style can be made in plastic and metal, but wooden models tend to be the most common.

Stringer Pallets

One of the main advantages of this type of wooden pallet is that these pallets typically can provide a lot of necessary extra support. They can’t be picked up in four directions because there are support boards underneath the top layer that reinforces the amount of weight the pallet can support.

It’s important to know that there are four-way options with stringer pallets, which essentially are made with a notch cut into the wood for the forklift, but two-way stringer pallets tend to be much more common and durable.

Double Face Pallets

For the most parts, pallets have one top deck, but with double face pallets there are symmetrical decks on either side. This pallet type is usually used for heavy-duty lifting because of how strong they are.

Double Wing Pallets

The main differentiation with this type of wooden pallet is that the top and bottom decks extend somewhat beyond the support beams, so there’s subsequently a much larger surface area for loading. This can make a difference for a lot of businesses in terms of how long it takes to load their inventory, so this pallet type is very useful for those who are looking to transport a lot of products all together.

Choosing the Right Pallet for Your Business

There are a lot of things that you need to take into consideration when it comes to choosing which of the above pallet types are best for you and your business. Some of the factors every business owner needs to consider include the following:

• Your desired material type
• The dimensions of your company’s packaging and inventory
• The overall frequency in which you’ll be using your pallets
• The potential destinations intended for the pallets
• Any type of conditions that can be applied to all means of transportation and usage
• Your overall budget

There’s no denying how difficult it can be to make these final decisions, so if you have any questions at all feel free to reach out to the experts via the link at the top of the article!
