Specializing in finding fish and making memories for families, friends, individuals or corporate groups, customers can hire Captain Don, also known as the grouper hunter year around for a ½ day (four hours) or full day (eight hours) of saltwater fishing for 1-4 people. Offshore trips for grouper can only be booked for full days, due to the drive time it takes to get to the Grouper Grounds.
Captain Don is an experienced, friendly and well-respected fishing guide who knows the waters, the regulations, and can take you and your group to the fishing and scalloping “hot spots” along the Citrus County coastline.
Captain Don operates a custom built 24’ Carolina Skiff for inshore fishing and a 22’ Grady White for offshore fishing. Frequently caught inshore species include redfish, trout, flounder, mackerel, snook and cobia. Target species offshore include gag grouper, red grouper, mangrove snapper and red snapper.
Specialty trips are available for larger groups using pre-qualified reputable fishing and scallop guides from the Homosassa and Crystal River area. Captain Don can customize the experience to accommodate single or multiple day fishing excursions to include a “cook your catch” meal or shore lunch experience after a day of fishing.
Seasonally (July through September) customers can hire Captain Don for a ½ day or full day shallow water scallop snorkeling excursions. An advantage to using Flats Chance Charters is the customized shallow draft boat allows Captain Don to use an “off the beaten track” route to the scallop grounds getting customers a glimpse of Old Florida through protected state lands. Saltwater fishing licenses are included, scallopers should bring mask, snorkel, fins and a cooler with any food and beverages for the trip.
Fishing charters include all the required state and federal licenses, safety equipment, quality tackle, bait, ice, and cleaning your catch at the end of the day.
