The tank is where the water to be heated is stored and the insulation surrounds the tank so that heat is not transferred outside. The dip tube is to allow the cold water inside the tank and the outlet pipe is to collect the hot water.


The thermostat plays a very important role of controlling the temperature and therefore, should be checked for serviceability by a repair company. Similarly, the pressure valve is for safety and it ensures that the tank does not burst. The anode rod is for avoiding corrosion of the steel tank.
