Brent Cook, DVM - FREDERICK, MD

Dr. Brent Cook grew up on a farm in West Virginia among the same mountains that his ggggggreat-grandfather worked beginning in the mid 1700's. He was the first member of his family to attend college. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Franklin and Marshall College, he received his veterinary medical degree from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Cook worked as a veterinarian for many years in Northern Virginia before he and Dr. Davis opened Kingsbrook Animal Hospital. It was here that he learned many of the skills which he uses to manage their hospital. Chief among these is taking the time to listen. While visiting human physicians for his own care, Dr. Cook has seen for himself that unless the doctor takes the time to listen, the patient is not getting the best care. The medical care of animals (and people) is much more effective when the doctor takes the time to hear the whole story.

Dr. Cook sees that the pet owners who come to Kingbrook Animal Hospital are different from many others. These people see how much having an animal companion can enhance our existence. He realizes that pet owners come to our animal hospital because they want to know what is the best care they can provide their pets. While he works a lot with animals, he sees the most important part of his job is being an educator. By teaching humans how to prevent problems and what best to do when these occur, he allows pet owners to be involved in seeing that their companions live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Dr. Cook is married to Dr. Cardella and they have one daughter. When not at work, they enjoy hiking along the C&O Canal or riding the family's horses in the mountains of his native West Virginia. Genealogy, learning about his forefather's involvement in the Civil War (some of his ggggrandfathers fought for the North, while others fought for the South), discovering more about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, or any other type of history are his main interests.
