July 2020 COVID Updates: To minimize risk and to comply with County and State health orders we’ve made a number of temporary changes to our reservation policies and associated fees, as well as to the items such as linens and cookware we can provide in the house. Some of those changes are summarized below. If you have any questions or want further details please feel free to contact us.

Through a generation, this house has hosted family thanksgivings, romantic retreats, and writing sabbaticals. It's been home base for kids frolicking in the meadow and on the dunes, for peaceful walks, serene canoe trips, and rugged mountain bike adventures.
About the house:
Set in a private meadow surrounded by tall pines, featuring a large eat-in kitchen and timber-framed living room that is both spacious and cozy, the house feels as comfortable for an individual on a personal retreat, as it does for two families of 4 with young children.
Upstairs offers ample space to work or play, to kick back at the entertainment center, or to curl up and read a book in a window-seat. Downstairs you can relax in the living-room or kitchen and watch hummingbirds hover and the occasional deer wander through the meadow outside.
About the area:
A five minute walk on a private path will take you from the house to a secluded area of sand dunes (with no ATVs and plenty of space for children to play). Walk across the dunes (another 20 minutes) to a miles-long stretch of sandy coastline rarely visited by others.
A five minute drive brings you to the heart of the spectacular MacKerricher State Park, where you can hike the grassy headlands over dramatic cliffs; relax on the beach; watch birds on Lake Cleone; or take a stroll on the boardwalk past the tidepools to view seals sunbathing on rocks and whales migrating in the distance.
Just ten minutes south of the house is the town of Fort Bragg, with its many restaurants, grocery stores, art galleries, and more.
Scenic rivers, short walks and longer hikes, mountain biking, horseback-riding, and many magnificent beaches are all nearby.
Detailed Sleeping Arrangement Options:
The flexible room layout maximizes sleeping options. The first-floor bedroom has a queen bed and is across the hall from a bathroom with bathtub. The fireplace room on the first floor can also be used as a bedroom with a full-sized foam mat available.
Two large upstairs bedrooms share a common hall and bathroom (with tub and shower). One bedroom is split with a divider into a sleeping area with a full bed, and an entertainment area, which includes a love-seat and a futon that folds out to a full bed. The other bedroom has a bunk-bed as well as a day-bed with trundle.
Summary of COVID-related changes:
Given new stringent disinfecting and cleaning protocols, our cleaning fee has raised from $150 to $250. In order to prevent further increase and keep cleaning manageable we have removed a number of our standard kitchen items and extra bedding usually at the house. If you are interested in staying at the house we can provide you with a complete list of what is still there, so you can evaluate if it meets your needs and decide if you want to supplement.
With the house required to be empty for 48 hours between stays, and more stringent cleaning protocols, we have increased the minimum stay to 4 nights.
As required by the County health order, all guests for a given stay must be from a single household.
Note regarding internet service:
While we provide high-speed internet service, it is via satellite, so it has greater lag and less bandwidth than typical DSL or cable internet. It is functional for limited video use (occasional short streaming video or video conferencing), but you should not expect to stream movies or to have intensive or high-quality video conferencing.
