After several trips around Europe by car, many of them shared with you in this blog in travel journals, I decided to make an entry with tips for driving in many European countries in own car or rental. The reason is, above all, to answer many questions that you left me and that I was answering in comments or by email, and that I think they could be useful to share with anyone who likes to travel in this way.
First of all, I want to tell you that this practical guide is based on the countries I have visited by car, some of them on several occasions, and which include many of the European Union (with the exception of one of Eastern Europe and Greece) and like Norway, Switzerland and some small state like Litchestein, Andorra or Monaco. Finally, tell you that this guide is also very useful if you travel in another vehicle such as motorcycle, motorhome or truck, although it may vary somewhat in terms of tolls, documentation or mandatory accessories.
What are the main advantages of traveling in Europe by car?
Without a doubt, the main advantage is freedom. You can go see what you want, when you want and above all, where you want. If you take a trip on public transport you can see how difficult it is to reach certain places outside the large population centers. Moving to a natural park, a beautiful beach or a small lost village becomes complicated if we do not have a private vehicle. My experience when I travel without the car, is that I always end up visiting or very touristy cities or places, and I miss the rural landscapes, the beaches without people or the villages where tourists do not spend time.
